Donations

Hasn’t it been hot?  I’ve been loving this wonderfully warm weather, especially over the holidays but was grateful to come back to the air-conditioned office just as the next heat wave hit.  Unfortunately for other areas of Australia, the hot weather brings fire danger.

The fires effecting Tasmania have been declared a disaster for the purposes of establishing Australian disaster relief funds. This means that donations towards this cause will be tax deductible.  This includes any bucket donations that you may make (often in shopping centres or collections on busy intersections) up to the value of $10.

The $10 without a receipt rule is applicable to all disaster funds and appeals so please bear this in mind.  You won’t need a receipt to claim this in your 2013 tax return – please just make a note of the donation and the name of the fund you are contributing to.  We can then include these details when preparing your tax return.
