I hope you are all safe and well after enduring the weather over the last couple of weeks. To think that I was whinging about the heat a couple of weeks ago and a few days later there was serious flooding all over Queensland – it was crazy!
The ATO take an understanding approach to taxpayers effected by natural disaster. The most timely and in my opinion helpful being the deferral of lodgment and payment dates. Those who have been bushfire or flood effected could benefit from:
* lodgment and payment of the December monthly activity statement from the original due date of 21 January 2013 to 29 April 2013
* lodgment and payment of the January monthly activity statement from the original due date of 21 February 2013 to 29 April 2013
* lodgment and payment of the February monthly activity statement from the original due date of 21 March 2013 to 29 April 2013
* lodgment and payment of December quarterly activity statements from the original due date of 28 February 2013 to 29 April 2013.
I note that superannuation payments and lodgments are not elligible for the deferral.
As always, if we can be of any assistance, please contact the office. We are happy to contact the ATO directly on your behalf to negotiate any requests for deferral, payment arrangement and the like.
