As a business owner, I like many others are enjoying this delayed lodgement and payment extension for the BAS that the ATO so generously grant every year. The BAS isn’t due until February 28th which works really well after the holiday period. Unfortunately, the flip side of this is that the next BAS comes around very quickly – just 2 months later instead of the usual 3.
Unfortunately, the lodgement and payment extension for BAS does not extend to the superannuation obligation for employers. The due date for superannuation guarantee contributions (9.25% of your employees gross wages) must still be made by January 28th, 2014. That’s next Tuesday for anyone following along and Monday’s a public holiday! So if you haven’t sorted this out already, I recommend getting onto this today because if the payment is not made by the due date, it is no longer tax deductible.
Remember, if you are struggling to pay your staff superannuation as they all use different funds – there is another option. Have a fantastic Australia Day everyone!
